Industry News: Register of Copyrights Selection and Accountability Act of 2017

April 26, 2017

Currently, the Register of Copyrights is appointed by the Librarian of Congress. However, bill H.R. 1695, "The Register of Copyrights Selection and Accountability Act", amends federal copyright law to require the President, with the advice and consent of the Senate, to appoint a Register of Copyrights.

Making this a presidentially-appointed and Senate-confirmed position elevates the position amongst the ranks of the top officials within the administration.
