Lyrics
Come all you warriors and renowned nobles,
Give ear unto my warlike theme,
And I will tell you how Father Murphy
Lately aroused from his sleepy dream
For Julius Caesar or Alexander
Nor yet King Arthur could equal him
Armies formidable he did conquer
Through with two gun men he did begin.

When Enniscorthy was subjected by him,
T’was next to Wexford we marched our men,
And on the Three Rock took up our quarters,
Waiting for the daylight the town to win,
At Carraig Ruo some time we waited,
And next to Gorey we did repair,
At Tuberneering we thought no harm
But the bloody army was waiting there.

The issue of it was a close engagement,
And on the soldiers we spared no thanks,
Through bushes, marshland and shady thickets,
There were mangled bodies and broken ranks,
The British Fencibles I’ll not forget them,
They soon got the brushes on their helmets straight,
They turned around and they charged for Dublin
As though engaged in a huntin’ chase.

Some crossed Donnybrook and more through Blackrock,
And others up Shankhill without wound or flaw,
But if Barry Lawless is not a liar,
There’s more went groaning up Luggelaw.
May God attend you, brave Father Murphy,
Yeh fought the battle as best yeh knew,
And though yeh told us to give up our arms,
It’s in yer fightin’ we’ll think of you.
