Michael Rachap

Michael Rachap has been writing and producing music for more than thirty years, and is best known for his memorable songs for young listeners.

Born in Annapolis, Maryland, Michael began piano lessons at an early age, demonstrating a talent for playing by ear and a love of pop music. By age 15, he was performing with rock bands in Washington, DC nightclubs.

In 1999, after a decade in New York writing advertising, Michael left for Boston to study songwriting and music production at the Berklee College of Music. Since then, Rachap’s band Songeez has released twenty-six songs on the independent Fully Conscious Media label.

The band’s videos are streamed at Rachap.com. Many of these videos have made their way into online primary school curricula, both for their educational value and their catchy, joyful soundtracks.

Beyond his work for kids, Michael’s genre-spanning songwriting encompasses everything from Johnny Mercer-style ballads (“River”) to trippy glam rock

(“Sky Girl”).

Michael is currently writing and recording new music in his Portland, Oregon studio, and working to create an ad-free children's media destination.
