Michaela Sheranko
The artist Fleuke, aka Michaela Sheranko Walz, hails from New England where she grew up singing in church and school. Inheriting her father’s ear for music, she taught herself to harmonize at a young age while learning to play piano and guitar by ear thanks to her lack of patience after just a few lessons. Creative Writing was always her favorite subject (besides lunch), so writing lyrics came naturally when she started learning how to express herself through song in high school. A year after she graduated, she moved to Nashville to experience “music city” for herself. It was there that she first experienced writer's rounds where her love for writing songs grew all the more. Michaela sharpened her writing skills by co-writing with her closest friends which at times made writing songs seem too easy. A few years after living in Nashville, she was diagnosed with chronic Lyme disease which had been causing her to suffer from chronic pain and other debilitating symptoms since she was a teenager. She thought moving back home for treatment would mean the end of her pursuit of music, but ironically that is when everything seemed to fall into place. After releasing a few songs on her own, she began to develop her sound when reuniting with a few talented friends from childhood and soon after they joined her as a band. Michaela attributes her writing to years of persevering through pain and having a relentless drive to heal. All in all, the main purpose for her music is to provide a sense of comfort and understanding to those who may relate to her personal journey of heartbreak, sickness, love and wonder.
