“Woody Guthrie: What This Guitar Might Do”
April 17, 2026

What can a guitar really do? At “Woody Guthrie: What This Guitar Might Do” at New York University, the answer comes to life through color, creativity, and the enduring legacy of Woody Guthrie. A vibrant, immersive exhibition exploring Guthrie’s artistry, activism, and truth-telling, highlighting his years in New York City and the lasting power of song to document history, challenge the present, and inspire what comes next.
Featuring more than 130 reproductions of cartoons, photographs, posters, and archival materials from the Woody Guthrie Center, the exhibit offers a portrait of Guthrie as a prolific, multidisciplinary artist who used music, writing, and visual art to champion working people and drive social change.
On view at The Clive Davis Gallery, 370 Jay Street in Brooklyn from March 31 through May 15, 2026 (Tuesday–Saturday, 11am–6pm), the exhibition is free and open to the public.
