New Signing Sam Taylor

March 17, 2026

TRO Essex are pleased to have signed on both sides Samuel James Taylor, a Sheffield-based singer-songwriter whose musical journey spans more than two decades. Emerging in the late 1990s, he developed a reputation for guitar-driven songwriting infused with lyrical depth and melodic sensitivity.

Besides his main solo act, he is one half of the Anglo-American indie-folk duo The Greatest Endangered Thing created with his partner Rebecca Van Cleave, a project that further developed his stripped-back, harmony-led sound, rooted in authenticity and thoughtful storytelling. We are very proud to represent Rebecca as well on the publishing side.

Another key chapter in his career is Taylor & Marie, a long-running collaboration with Jodie Marie (aka Jodie Warlow) that received national radio support, including BBC Radio 2 plays from Claudia Winkleman and Paul O’Grady. The project highlights his versatility, balancing intimate folk textures with polished, radio-ready songwriting.

Consistent collaborators across these projects include his brother, Matthew Taylor, who has also joined the TRO Essex family of songwriters.

Alongside his own artist projects, Taylor has written with Reverend and the Makers and Ciaran McMeeken to name a few, reflecting the breadth of his songwriting across different styles.

Across all of his work, his music remains grounded in emotional honesty, rich texture, and continual artistic evolution.
