New Release from The Klezmatics
On International Workers’ Day, we release our new album We Were Made For These Times.
Our 40th anniversary record — and one of the most urgent we’ve ever made.
Songs of protest, resilience, hope, and collective courage.
To mark the release, we’re sharing the official album animation video —
featuring all guest artists and weaving hidden visual cues from every song.
At its center is the title track with Joshua Nelson and Lavender Light Gospel Choir — written by Angela Gabriel, inspired by Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estés’ Letter to a Young Activist During Troubled Times.
Its message is simple: we were made for these times.
Across the album, voices and traditions come together —
Jewish, Black gospel, Latin American, Crimean Tatar, avant-jazz —
with Sofía Rei, Joshua Nelson, Lavender Light Gospel Choir, Enver İzmaylov, William Parker, James Brandon Lewis, Janis Siegel, La Manga.
The project is deeply connected to the Singing Resistance movement —
people gathering in public spaces to sing in grief, power, and solidarity.
More than an album, this is a living work — music, art, and community as action.
Today is also Bandcamp Friday — the best day to support artists directly.
