The Who's "Quadrophenia" Album is 50!
50 years ago, on October 26, 1973, The Who released one of their most acclaimed albums "Quadrophenia", which is their third rock opera, the two previous being the "mini-opera" song "A Quick One, While He's Away" and the album Tommy.
The seventeen album tracks, all composed by Pete Townshend, tell the story of a young working-class mod from London named Jimmy, who is seeking self-worth amidst his chaotic life. Townshend took inspiration from early fans of the band, especially from their eccentric and wacky friend "Irish" Jack Lyons, to create the four-sided schizophrenic character of Jimmy.
The album featured brilliant instrumentation and was also the playground for introducing cutting-edge multi-track synthesizers. Happy 50th Anniversary to The Who's "Quadrophenia" album!
